Coolroom Repairs, Modifications & Extensions

Not every coolroom problem needs a full rebuild, and not every business that calls us ends up needing one. We repair, modify and extend existing coolrooms and freezer rooms across Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong, working on our own builds and other contractors' installations alike.

Diagnose the Cause, Not the Symptom

Because we also design and build coolrooms from scratch, we bring that same understanding of how a room is supposed to perform to every repair and modification job. That matters, because a lot of recurring coolroom problems come down to something being slightly wrong at the design or installation stage, not just a worn part. Fixing the symptom without addressing the cause is how the same fault ends up back on someone's desk six months later.

Repairs, Modifications or Extensions: Which Do You Need?

If your coolroom or freezer is not holding temperature, is making unusual noises, has visible ice buildup, or a door that will not seal properly, that is a repair issue. If the room works fine but no longer suits how the business operates (wrong layout, wrong door position, needs a hanging rail added) that is a modification. If the room simply is not big enough anymore, that is an extension. Many enquiries turn out to be a mix of two, and we will talk through what is actually needed rather than quoting the biggest job by default.

Common Faults We Diagnose and Fix

Most coolroom faults trace back to a handful of causes: a failed or worn door seal letting warm air in, a struggling or failed compressor, refrigerant leaks, blocked or iced-over evaporator coils, or a faulty thermostat giving inaccurate readings. Ice buildup around a door frame, a compressor that runs constantly instead of cycling normally, or temperature swings that keep tripping HACCP records are all signs worth acting on before they become a bigger failure.

We diagnose before we quote a fix. A compressor that is constantly overworking because of a failed door seal does not need a new compressor, it needs a new seal, and a proper diagnosis is what tells the difference.

Extensions and Modifications

An extension adds floor space to an existing coolroom or freezer room rather than replacing it outright, and it is usually the more cost effective option when the existing structure, panels and refrigeration are still in good condition. The main technical consideration is matching the new panel system to the existing one and confirming the current refrigeration can handle the larger volume, or upgrading it as part of the job. Where it cannot, we will say so upfront.

Modifications cover changes that do not require adding floor space: relocating or resizing a door, adding shelving or hanging rails, upgrading insulation or refrigeration capacity, splitting a single room into separate temperature zones, or adjusting layout to suit a change in how the space is used.

Emergency Repairs

A coolroom or freezer failure puts stock at risk from the moment it happens, so we prioritise emergency repair calls ahead of scheduled work. If a repair cannot be completed on the spot, or the room needs to come offline for a bigger fix, we can also arrange mobile coolroom hire to keep the business operating while the repair is carried out.

Repairs, Modifications & Extensions FAQs

Why won't my coolroom hold temperature?

The most common causes are a worn or damaged door seal, a struggling or failing compressor, low refrigerant from a leak, or a faulty thermostat giving inaccurate readings. Ice buildup around the door frame or a compressor running constantly instead of cycling normally are both signs worth having assessed before the fault worsens.

How quickly can a coolroom repair be done?

Straightforward faults such as a door seal replacement can often be fixed on the spot. More involved issues, such as a compressor or refrigerant system fault, may need parts ordered or the room taken offline briefly. Emergency repair calls are prioritised ahead of scheduled work given the risk to stock.

Can my coolroom be extended instead of rebuilt?

Often, yes, provided the existing structure, panels and refrigeration are in good condition. The main considerations are matching the new panel system to the existing one and confirming refrigeration can handle the extra volume. A site assessment will confirm whether extension or rebuild makes more sense.

Do you repair coolrooms you didn't originally build?

Yes. We repair, modify and extend coolrooms and freezer rooms installed by other contractors, not just our own builds. Diagnosis starts the same way regardless of who built the original room.

What happens if my coolroom needs to come offline for repairs?

If a repair requires the room to be taken offline, we can arrange mobile coolroom hire to keep your business operating and stock protected while the work is carried out.

How much does a coolroom repair cost?

Cost depends entirely on the fault. A door seal replacement is a minor cost, while compressor or refrigerant system repairs cost considerably more. We diagnose the actual issue on site before quoting, since assumptions about the cause often turn out to be wrong.

Coolroom Playing Up? Get It Looked At.

Every project is different, so we start with a site visit rather than a guess over the phone. We assess your space, talk through temperature requirements and floor considerations, and put together a detailed quote based on what your business actually needs. No obligation, just a straight answer on what is involved and what it will cost.
